Club-tail Dragonflies and White-legged Damselflies on the wing!

Great to hear from David Williams that Common Club-tail and White-legged Damselfly are on the wing- seen on the River Severn at Hampton Loade on 27th May.

This is an immature male with the pale brown eyes - typical of immature specimens. The mature male becomes greener rather than yellow in colour. Also of interest on male club-tails (and visible below) are the acute angles on the rear margin of the hind wing and the presence of small yellow side protrusions from abdominal segment 2 called auricles.

 

 

 

This lovely pic of an immature female White-legged Damselfly shows the distinctive expanded white edges of the lower legs or tibiae.

 

And as if these weren't good enough sightings, David also saw over 50 Banded Demoiselles which must have looked stunning!
