Whixall Moss update

After a very soggy Saturday, Sunday was a big improvement and P. Hopwood reports a number of species seen at Whixall and better still some great photos:

Four- spotted Chaser Libellula quadrimaculata

Female Common Blue Damselfly Enallagma cyathigerum with diagnostic broad antehumeral (shoulder stripes) and distinctive black rocket shapes extending up the abdomen

Female White-faced Darter Leucorrhinia dubia -showing glassy appearance to wings suggesting recent emergence

And male White-faced Darter showing the distinctive white frons (face area) and striking red black colouration.

The next few days are reasonable and we may get word of the first Emperors on the wing?....
