And they're off!

Well a fabulous stretch of spring sunshine has finally got the dragonflies underway with the first reported sighting in Shropshire of a Large Red Damselfly Pyrrhosoma nymphula.
This teneral female was seen by Joena Scott in a garden pond near Hodnet (nr Market Drayton) on 21st April. The opaque wings are typical of a recently emerged specimen and they are very vulnerable to damage at this stage so should not be handled- just admired.
