Migrant Hawkers out in good numbers

After a week away surrounded by seagulls not dragonflies it's great to hear from Rob Stokes that a good number of dragonflies are still on the wing. Rob took these fabulous photos of Migrant Hawkers reportedly out in good numbers at Mousecroft pool, Shrewsbury.

 
This first photo clearly shows the yellow 'golf tee' shape on segment 2 of the abdomen which helps to easily distinguish this species from the other hawkers.

 
And this amazing inflight shot illustrates the reduced antehumeral stripes present on the top of the thorax. These are far larger in the Southern Hawker which may well be seen in the same habitats.
