Summer weather showing signs of normality!

Well we can hardly complain about the weather this summer, but as showers increase and winds pick up the dragonflies are still battling on and many seem to be having an impressively long season. Banded Demoiselle is still being seen in good numbers - on 16th August at the Fordhall Farm Bioblitz we saw this species along with Brown Hawker, Southern Hawker and Common Blue Damselfly (despite very heavy cloud and blustery winds). Claire Install also spotted Emperor Dragonfly on 11th August- quite a late sighting and even more strangely at a totally unsuitable pond in a very built up area near the Telford Magistrates Court!

Returning to some normality Southern Hawkers are still as expected going strong and Sue Hiatt spotted this female on 14th August in a garden in Telford.


Warwick Davies has also seen a number of Common Darters emerging from his pond near Oswestry and in addition captured this lovely shot of a Ruddy Darter:
