Large Numbers of Black-tailed Skimmer at Dudmaston

Paul Hopwood visited Dudmaston this week and reports over 80 Black-tailed Skimmers! Skimmers are known to settle on bare ground as shown here- a fact often used to help separate them from Chasers. Always best to look for a number of diagnostic features though- having seen a Four-spotted Chaser on the ground recently!

 

Paul is also ambitiously trying to photograph Emperors and did manage to snap the individual below at full speed- more than I could ever manage! Anyone else up for the challenge?...
