Four Spots take to the skies

Good to hear some more dragons are joining the fray with Barrie Smith spotting at least a dozen Four-spotted Chasers at Whixall Moss yesterday (15th May). Numerous White-faced Darter and Large Red Damselflies also seen at this location.

It's interesting to see fully mature large reds (as in Barrie's photo) as my current local observations consist largely of the same species just emerging-perhaps we're behind in Pontesbury. Certainly Warwick Davies in Oswestry reports copulating and ovipositing large reds and Jonathan Groom and Dan Wrench also have observed Large Reds in cop on the Rea Brook yesterday along with numerous Azure Damselflies also copulating.
